Science and Engineering Research Board Project (CRG/2021/004314)
The project entitled “Effect of Social Institutional and Technological Interventions on Access to Healthcare Among Inter-State Migrant Labourers In Kerala” proposed Interstate Migrant Workers’ Access to Healthcare Information System (IMWATHIS) is envisioned to develop a multidimensional information dissemination mechanism based on Baseline Studies, Randomized Controlled Trials, Data Analysis and Systematic Research to enhance policy responses in the field of public health services for interstate migrant workers in India. The IMWATHIS would initially be tested in the social sites in Kerala, India’s leading pro-migrant policy-making state, to replicate the same in other states. The lack of data on crucial policy measures for tangible and time-bound outcomes is evident in the Indian context. Although the migrant labour force contributes significantly to the country’s development, significant social indicators of migrant workers are unavailable due to the severe shortage of reliable updated data. The proposed IMWATHIS is intended as a single access point to the best available public health data and information to support contemporary migration policy discourse and decision-making in line with the WHO standards and another international standard, including the GCM, inputs from internationally accepted studies.
