The Centre for Migration Policy and Inclusive Governance (CMPIG), in collaboration with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Project (CRG/2021/004314) and the School of International Relations and Politics (SIRP) at Mahatma Gandhi University, will host an upcoming special talk on the development challenges faced by migrants in India’s urban areas. Scheduled to take place virtually on October 29 at 5:00 PM IST, the event will feature noted economist Dr. Sumeetha M from the Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu.
In her talk, titled *”The Development Conundrum: Unequal Urban Spaces and Migrants in India,”* Dr. Sumeetha will address the pressing issues of inequity in urban spaces, including limited access to housing, healthcare, and employment opportunities for migrant populations. With rapid urbanization, these challenges have intensified, making it critical for policymakers to understand and address the unique vulnerabilities faced by migrant communities.
Dr. Mathew A Varghese, Director of the Centre for Urban Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University, will chair the session. His opening remarks will set the stage for a comprehensive discussion on potential policy interventions that can promote inclusivity in urban development.
The event will be accessible through Google Meet at [https://meet.google.com/sig-emaw-ttz](https://meet.google.com/sig-emaw-ttz), and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session following Dr. Sumeetha’s presentation. CMPIG invites academics, students, policymakers, and members of the public to join and engage in this timely conversation on urban equity and the future of migrant welfare in India.
