Dr. Jojin John presented a paper, “Status Quest, Middle Power Identity, and South Korea’s Contested Geopolitical Imagination: Between Global Grandeur and Regional Realpolitik,” at the ISA Annual Convention 2024 in San Francisco, April 3-6, 2024. The paperexplores South Korea’s evolving middle power identity over the last three decades, highlighting the contested nature of its geopolitical role. Dr. John illustrated the shifts in South Korea’s regional and global orientations under different administrations by developing an analytical framework based on critical geopolitics.
