Navas M Khadar, a dedicated advocate for human rights, has spent the last seven years immersed in the study of the challenges faced by interstate migrant labourers. Beyond his academic pursuits, Mr Navas bridges the gap between theoretical research and real-world issues. Mr Navas’s academic journey reflects his passion for understanding and addressing complex social issues. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Peters College, Kolenchery, in 2010. Subsequently, he pursued his Master of Arts in Politics and International Relations at the School of International Relations and Politics from 2011 to 2013. Continuing his academic pursuits, Mr Navas completed his Master of Philosophy in Politics and International Relations from 2013 to 2015. He is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at the School of International Relations and Politics, focusing on the human rights perspective of interstate migrant workers in Kerala’s plywood industry.
In addition to his academic qualifications, Mr Navas has pursued various certifications to enrich his knowledge further. Notably, he completed the “Introduction to Statics” course at Stanford University through the Coursera online platform in October 2023. He is undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Migration and Diaspora Studies at Indira Gandhi National Open University, Kochi Regional Centre, and exploring courses on Globalisation and Health Governance and Migration and Health at Imperial College London through Coursera.
Mr Navas’s professional experience includes a position as a Guest Lecturer in Social Science, specializing in BBA – Business Economics, at Speed Wings Aviation Academy, Kaloor, Kerala, from 2010 to 2012. Concurrently, he has held voluntary positions as the Programme and Research Coordinator at the Centre for Migration Policy and Inclusive Governance, the Centre for West Asian Studies, and the Nelson Mandela Chair for Afro-Asian Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University since 2017.
Throughout his academic journey, Mr Navas has achieved notable milestones. In the MA program, he secured the second position at the university, and his dissertation work was awarded an A+ grade. His extensive research has been presented at numerous national and international conferences, covering diverse topics such as human rights, gender, and migration. Noteworthy presentations include those at the UGC-sponsored National Seminar on “Human Rights- Human Enrichment” and the International Webinar on “Migrants and Displaced Persons and COVID-19.”
Mr Navas’s commitment to disseminating knowledge is evident in his academic publications. He has contributed articles to reputable journals, addressing critical issues like interstate migrant workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, gender and livelihood patterns among migrant women labourers, and legal frameworks protecting the human rights of interstate migrant workers.
Aside from his academic and research endeavours, Mr Navas coordinates conferences, webinars, and lecture series. His role as the Conference Convenor for the “Three Day International Conference on Breaking Shells, Seeking Lives: Migrant Rights, Livelihood and Dignity” reflects his commitment to creating platforms for discourse and awareness.
