On November 3, 2022, a seminar titled “CCP and the Future of China: Decoding the 20th Party Congress” was organized at the Seminar Hall of the School of International Relations and Politics (SIRP). The seminar was organised by SIRP in collaboration with Institute for Contemporary China Studies, MGU. The event aimed to analyze the implications of the 20th Party Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for the future of China and the global political landscape.
The seminar began with welcome remarks from Dr. Jojin V. John, Assistant Professor at SIRP. He introduced the topic and emphasized its significance in understanding the future trajectory of China’s political and economic development. Following the welcome remarks, Prof. C Vinodan, Director of the SIRP, provided introductory remarks. He outlined the historical context and importance of the Party Congress and its potential implications for China’s domestic and foreign policies.
The first expert remarks were given by Shri. Muraleedharan Nair, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) in Kochi and Distinguished Senior Fellow at Defence Research and Studies. Shri. Nair discussed the major outcomes of the 20th Party Congress, including leadership changes, policy shifts, and the consolidation of power under President Xi Jinping. He also explored the possible impact of these developments on China’s international relations and the global order.
Next, Dr. CR Pramod, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, provided his expert remarks. Dr. Pramod focused on the ideological dimensions of the Party Congress and the implications for China’s domestic politics, social stability, and economic growth. He also touched upon the potential challenges the CCP might face in maintaining its control and legitimacy.
The seminar concluded with a moderated discussion, during which attendees had the opportunity to engage with the experts, ask questions, and share their thoughts on the subject.
