On March 31, 2023, a special lecture on “Reformed Multilateralism and India’s Outlook During its G20 Presidency” was held at the IRBMS Seminar Hall, MGU Campus. The event was organized by the School of International Relations and Politics (SIRP) of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) in collaboration with IMPSS, MGU. The lecture aimed to discuss the significance of reformed multilateralism in the contemporary world and India’s role and perspective as the G20 President.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. C Vinodan, the Director of SIRP, MGU. He highlighted the importance of the lecture topic and its relevance in the current global scenario. Following the welcome address, Prof. Sabu Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of MGU, delivered the felicitation address. He emphasized the need for a reformed multilateralism to address global challenges, such as climate change, economic inequality, and the ongoing pandemic. The special lecture was given by Amb. Sujan R Chinoy, T20 Chair and DG of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA). Amb. Chinoy presented his insights on the role of reformed multilateralism in fostering international cooperation and stability. He also discussed India’s approach and priorities during its G20 presidency, which include promoting sustainable development, enhancing global governance, and supporting a rules-based international order.
Following Amb. Chinoy’s lecture, Col (Dr) DPK Pillay, a Research Fellow at MP-IDSA, offered his views on the subject. He highlighted India’s potential to lead global efforts for reformed multilateralism and the challenges it may face in fulfilling its objectives. The event concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with the speakers. Dr. Jojin V John, Assistant Professor at SIRP, MGU, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the distinguished speakers, participants, and the organizing team for their valuable contributions.
