The Centre for Migration Policy and Inclusive Governance (CMPIG), along with the Anusandhan National Research Funded Project (CRG/2021/004314), under the School of International Relations and Politics, Mahatma Gandhi University, organised a distribution programme for children of interstate migrant workers at Government Lower Primary School, Malayidamthuruth.
The event was inaugurated by Navas M. Khadar, Programme Coordinator, CMPIG. Ward Member K.E. Kochunni chaired the session, while Headmistress Sheena Kuriakose delivered the welcome address.
More than 50 children, many of whom lack access to basic educational resources, received learning kits as part of CMPIG’s outreach initiative aimed at promoting inclusive education and child rights. The materials were sponsored by Mr. Rakesh Roy Philip, a Keralite migrant based in the UAE.
The programme highlighted the academic and social challenges faced by migrant children in Kerala’s school system. CMPIG, which has been involved in both research and field-level interventions, emphasised the importance of strengthening educational inclusion through policy and practice.
Organisers noted that such initiatives underscore the value of community engagement and diaspora support in ensuring equitable learning environments. CMPIG reaffirmed its commitment to advancing dignity, access, and opportunity for migrant families through sustained academic and social efforts.
